Geo-Switi Sranan musings.
For the “Sleeping Exploration Beauties”, unbeknowst Suriname exists.

Grand Prospectivity Offshore Suriname.

A geological treasure trove, poised to become one of the world’s most exciting oil and gas frontiers.

Based on my own calculations using publicly available data, the numbers are staggering:
886 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BBOE) generated.
With 133 BBOE discoverable.

So far, only 2.28 BBOE (1.26 billion bbls light oil, 17 TCF gas?) discovered.
Leaving ~130 BBOE to be found.

This untapped potential makes Offshore Suriname a prime target for exploration and development.

Key Highlights

  1. Canje Source Rock: A Hydrocarbon Powerhouse:
  • With high TOC, Type II kerogen and a favourable maturation history, Canje Source Rock has generated some 886 BBOE, ensuring vast hydrocarbon reserves.
  • Its thermal maturity over millions of years guarantees significant expulsion into reservoirs.
  1. Greater Kitchen Area: Expanding the Potential:
  • The surrounding area adds 130 BBOE of recoverable hydrocarbons, enhancing the region’s prospectivity.
  • It acts as a migration pathway, feeding hydrocarbons into Blocks 58 and 52.
  1. Discovered Reserves: Just Beginning:
  • Discoveries like 1.26 billion barrels of light oil and rumoured 17 TCF of gas confirm high-quality reservoirs and effective traps.
  • These are only a fraction of the total potential.
  1. Remaining Hydrocarbons: A Treasure Trove:
  • ~130 BBOE remain undiscovered, offering unparalleled exploration opportunities.
  • Light oil and gas already found suggest similar high-quality resources await discovery.

Why Offshore Suriname?

  1. World-Class Geology:
  • The Canje Source Rock rivals the prolific La Luna Formation, known for exceptional hydrocarbon generation.
  • Turbidite reservoirs and deep-sea fan systems provide excellent storage and migration pathways.
  1. Proven Success:
  • Neighboring Guyana’s Stabroek Block discoveries demonstrate the basin’s potential.
  • Offshore Suriname, specifically Golden Lane area, as Block 58 and Block 52, the SE extension of extremely successful Stabroek Block, shares the same geology, making it the next logical exploration target.
  1. Untapped Potential:
  • The Greater Kitchen Area remains largely unexplored, offering significant upside.
  • Smart Explorers will unlock these reserves.

Offshore Suriname is a geological gem, combining proven success in Blocks 52 and 58, with vast untapped potential.

With probably some 886 BBOE generated and ~130 BBOE to be discovered, this region is set to become a global energy hub.

Time to invest is now…
