I wish to share this with you.

Unfortunately one (almost) never encounters these plots and studies on Guyana Suriname Basin on LinkedIn or other open platforms.

Discussions and interchange of own generated data is always positive, leads to increased understanding and raises exploration succes, I have learned during the last half century.
A great example was Venezuela..
Before nationalisation of the IOC’s, 1976, all major IOC’s or Seven Sisters were active there.
Of course all kept their data secret, for themselves.
Only after nationalisation one could access and integrate all data.
Very beneficial, a holistic approach for E&P success.

In petroleum industry secrecy and being tight lipped?
Is about one of the most important character traits…

“From Source to Success: The Canje Source Rock’s Golden Legacy in Block 58

My independent basin modeling study reveals why Block 58 and its extension into Guyana’s Stabroek Block represents the industry’s ‘Golden Lane’ of premium light oil discoveries.

Focusing this time on the critical and first Maka Central-1 discovery well, offshore Suriname, I have reconstructed the thermal evolution that created this remarkable sweet spot of hydrocarbon generation.

Through detailed modeling using published geochemical and stratigraphic data, I have mapped how the Canje Source rock’s burial history created optimal conditions for high-quality light oil generation.

By integrating critical parameters, Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Hydrogen Index (HI), and Type II kerogen kinetics, I have tracked the systematic progression through thermal
maturity windows that yielded this coveted hydrocarbon kitchen.

My analysis reveals why this specific corridor consistently delivers exceptional hydrocarbon quality.

The thermal modeling demonstrates how the perfect interplay of burial depth and temperature history created ideal conditions for light oil generation, while avoiding over-maturation into gas.

The transformation ratio evolution shows the source rock achieved optimal maturity precisely within this golden lane, explaining the remarkable success rate of discoveries from Block 58 into Stabroek.

This research provides the scientific foundation for understanding the geochemical sweet spot that makes this corridor exceptional.

By modeling the source rock’s journey through various maturity windows, I’ve documented how the perfect combination of burial history, thermal stress, and organic matter transformation resulted in premium light oil generation.

This work not only validates the petroleum system model but crucially explains why this specific trend hosts the highest quality oil discoveries in the Suriname-Guyana Basin, supporting Block’s 58 exploration success and illuminating why this golden corridor continues to yield remarkable discoveries.

Enjoy.
Getting buried, older and maturing through time...
